Dr David Smith

College Principal & Lecturer

David, currently the Principal of Perth Bible College, has a background in a variety of business, pastoral and teaching roles. He is involved in leadership, training, preaching and overseas mission, having a heart for people to be gripped by God’s grace and equipped for a life of passionate service. In his capacity as Principal, David lectures in the fields of Pastoral Ministry, Leadership, Preaching, Theology and Hermeneutics. Cross culturally, he has been involved in leading short term mission teams and in leading Pastor’s Conferences in Cambodia. At present David is undertaking Doctoral studies in Practical Theology, seeking to develop a church evaluation model that incorporates, integrates and aligns both the essence and expression aspects of the church. David came to PBC from Tasmania with his wife and three children.


Dr Andre van Oudtshoorn

Academic Dean & Lecturer

Previously Andre has served as a Church pastor and as a TV director. Originally from South Africa he has lectured in many lands and seeks to place Christ as the central focus in all he teaches and lives.


Dr Peter Elliott

Dean of Studies & Lecturer

Peter’s qualifications are in Church History, focusing on the seventeenth and nineteenth centuries. He has lectured Church History, New Testament Greek and other subjects in Bible Colleges for 18 years, is married to Deborah and they have two teenage sons.


Mr David Shaw

David recently spent eight years in South Korea where he taught English, completed an M.Div., pastored several churches, and, most importantly, met and married his beautiful bride, Becky, with whom he has had three children. David is presently pursuing a PhD in New Testament.


Mr Basie van Rooyen

Basie and his wife Hanlie have extensive ministry and pastoral experience. He has a background in Hebrew and Old Testament studies in which he lectures. Basie also manages our College facilities and our distance education resources.


Mrs Hanlie van Rooyen

Apart from 25+ years of experience in church youth work, Hanlie has been a secondary school teacher for 9 years, teaching Christian Studies and Mathematics.

Gillian with husband Jeremy and their 5 children have been involved in pastoral and chaplaincy work in many contexts for over 25 years. Gillian has a passion to see people live authentic lives before God in whatever context they are called to serve.


Mrs Kari Minetto

Kari grew up in Norway, and moved to Australia in 2003. She is married to Marcel and they have 3 boys. Kari oversees the reception and is PA to the Principal.


Mrs Sarah Park

Sarah, origninally from South Korea, studied business before coming to Perth with her husband Samuel and their two children. Sarah is part of the JDM mission organisation which reaches out to university students. Sarah works in the office at the College part time.


Mrs Judy Smith

Judy is a gifted musician, the wife of David and the mother of Daniel, Aidan and Kaila. Judy, who previously worked for Australia Post, is a passionate book lover and now works as the College Librarian.


Mr Terry Chester

Terry has worked as a church staff member for many years in the area of church management, pastoral care, and missions. Terry now oversees College administration, including finances and student registrations.


Mr Nicholas van Oudtshoorn

Systems Administrator

Nick has a background in systems administration. As well as serving us in the IT sphere he is also pastoring a church. Nick works for us part time to ensure all that our IT services are functioning and improving.

Dr David G. Michie


David is the director of Journeylines Counselling & Training Services and has over 20 years of counselling experience. He has been a lecturer for PBC for many years and has a desire for people to know, explore and live the realness of Jesus in all of life.


Mr Geoff Wager

Geoff and his family worked as missionaries for many years in Indonesia. He has continued his passion for mission in the form of lecturing in many places over the years. Geoff also has a depth of knowledge in church history and lectures with international students who are seeking to improve their English.


Mrs Leigh Roper

Leigh is married to Garry and they have one daughter. Leigh completed her Bachelor of Ministry and Master of Theology here at Perth Bible College. She is now teaching studies skills and helping in the library.


Mr Matt Hall

Sessional lecturer

Matt has been involved in outreach and Church ministry overseas and in Western Australia. He has lectured in Social Work, Youth and Urban Ministry programmes in Glasgow, Scotland. Presently he is lecturing in Theology on the VET programme and completing his MDiv at PBC. Matt and his wife Diane have three children.


Mr Stephen Poisat

Stephen worked as a pastor for nine years before moving to Perth to be involved with church planting. Together with his wife, Michele, they planted Reho Church of the Nations and Redeemer Gospel Community where he is the pastor. Stephen was also a school chaplain with YouthCARE and a part time tutor and lecturer.

Professor Stephan Joubert


Stephan teaches in the areas of New Testament, Christian leadership and Christian spirituality. He also serves the professional development of the faculty by delivering a number of lectures on the supervision and marking of post-graduate theses.

Stephan continues to serve as Research Fellow at the University of Nijmegen, in the Netherlands as well as Extraordinary Professor: Contemporary Ecclesiology, at the University of Free State, South Africa.

Stephan has a very impressive record of more than seventy academic and popular publications and has won a number of prestigious academic awards such as the Award for the Best Religious Publication of the Year in South Africa for “Die Boodskap” by the South African Christian Booksellers Association in 1997; the Andrew Murray Award for the best religious publication of the year, as well as the award of the South African Christian Booksellers Association for: “Die Bybellenium” in 2000; the Van Drimmelen Medal from the South African Academy of Science and Art for the translation of the New Testament from the original Greek into Afrikaans; and in 2010 the Andrew Murray Award: Best Religious Publication of the Year for: “Jesus ‘n Radikale Sprong.”

Apart from his Academic prowess, Stephan also brings a rich experience in pastoral ministry to the subjects that he teaches. He was an associate pastor, responsible for leadership development, at a local church of more than 17,000 members and is the founder of the echurch virtual community, reaching close to 100,000 people.
